Getting started
- What's in each tab? A quick tour of the five tabs, and which one to reach for.
- Can I use Yarn Squirrel without a Ravelry account? Yes — here's what works without one, and what a Ravelry account adds.
- Connecting your Ravelry account What syncs in, what Yarn Squirrel writes back, and how to disconnect.
- What's the example pattern doing in my library? The bundled example, and how to remove it once you've had a look.
Patterns & importing
- Library, Favourites and Queue Three lists of patterns, and what each one is actually for.
- What do the little badges on a pattern mean? Ravelry, PDF, Web and YouTube — and why a pattern can have more than one.
- Importing a PDF pattern Get a PDF in, and let Yarn Squirrel find its Ravelry entry while it's at it.
- Saving a pattern from a website or YouTube Keep free patterns and video tutorials alongside the ones you bought.
- Linking a PDF to its Ravelry pattern Keep your file and borrow Ravelry's details at the same time.
- Patterns in several files One entry holding all the parts of a crochet-along or a multi-size pattern.
- Merging and separating patterns Two entries for one pattern, made into one — and taken apart again.
- Filtering and finding patterns Narrowing a library you can no longer scroll, and searching all of Ravelry.
Yarn & stash
- Adding yarn to your stash Photograph the label, search Ravelry, add another colourway, or type it in.
- Scanning a yarn label What the camera actually does with the label — and what it doesn't.
- How much of this yarn do I have? Why a stash entry can show two different numbers, and which one is the one you have.
- Yards or metres? Tap any length to switch — it's the most easily missed thing in the app.
- Yarn groups All the colourways of one yarn, kept together as a single entry.
- Care symbols Record how a yarn should be washed once, and it follows the yarn into your projects.
- Colour palettes Put colours side by side before you commit to them.
Projects & counters
- Keeping a project Notes, photos, steps and progress — the record of one thing you're making.
- Row counters Keeping your place — including repeats, linked counters and alerts.
- Counting from the Lock Screen Keep a counter on your Lock Screen or Home Screen and tap without opening the app.
- Reading a pattern while you work The reader remembers your place, keeps your counters to hand, and can rule guide lines across the page.
- Yarn and bits in a project Recording what you used, and taking it off your shelf at the same time.
- Sharing a project Turn a project into a picture you can post or send.
Bits & Bobs
- What goes in Bits & Bobs? Everything that isn't yarn or a pattern — and why supplies and tools behave differently.
- Knowing when you're running low Set a level per item and the app tells you before you run out mid-project.
- Hooks and needles from Ravelry Your Ravelry needle inventory syncs in — one way, and with your own edits protected.
