Running out of stuffing with one leg left to go is a particular kind of annoying. You can ask the app to warn you first.
Setting a level
Editing an item lets you set a Low Stock Alert — the quantity at which you’d like to be warned. Set it to the point where you’d want to reorder, not to zero.
When the amount on hand reaches that level or drops below it, the item is marked in red, on its card in the grid and on its own page.
Choose the number you’d act on
A sensible level is “enough left for one more project”, not “almost none”:
- Stuffing — a couple of hundred grams, since a toy eats it faster than you expect
- Safety eyes — a few pairs, because they come in pairs and you need matching ones
- Stitch markers — however many you lose down the sofa in a month
It counts down on its own
If you use the Deduct from inventory option when logging supplies against a project, the amount falls as you work and the warning appears without you having to keep the numbers up to date by hand. That’s what makes the alert worth setting — see Yarn and bits in a project.
Tools don’t have one
Or rather, they can, but it rarely means anything: you don’t consume a hook. The alert is built for the things that run out.
