Getting started

What's the example pattern doing in my library?

The bundled example, and how to remove it once you've had a look.

If you started without connecting Ravelry, Yarn Squirrel offered you a small set of example content so the app wasn’t an empty room. It’s clearly marked as an example wherever it appears.

What it includes

  • A crochet pattern, Simple Ring Coaster, with a real PDF you can open and read
  • An in-progress project made from it, with a row counter part-way along
  • Two colourways of one yarn in your stash, linked to that project

It’s there so the grids, the reader, the counters and the stash all have something in them while you find your way around.

Removing it

Go to More → Settings and tap Remove example data under Sample Data. You’ll be asked to confirm, and then the pattern, its PDF, the project and the two stash entries all go together.

That section only appears while the example is still in your library, so if you can’t find it, it’s already gone.

Nothing you added yourself is touched. Removal only takes away the items Yarn Squirrel put there, even if you’ve edited them since.

Once it’s gone it stays gone — the app won’t quietly put it back on the next launch.

It isn’t your real library

The example never goes to Ravelry, and it doesn’t count towards anything. If you connect a Ravelry account, your own patterns sync in alongside it — so the coaster is only ever in your way until you remove it.
