If you keep your hooks and needles on Ravelry, you don’t have to type them in again. They come into Bits & Bobs with everything else.
Getting them
With a Ravelry account connected, they sync in on their own the first time you open Bits & Bobs in a session. You can also ask for them with Sync Hooks & Needles from Ravelry.
Synced items carry a small Ravelry marker so you can tell them from the ones you added.
It only goes one way
Ravelry’s needle list is read-only — there’s no way for any app to write to it. So changes you make here stay here, and won’t appear on Ravelry.
If Ravelry is where you keep the authoritative list, make changes there and sync. If you’d rather manage them in Yarn Squirrel, add them yourself as tools instead of syncing.
What a sync overwrites, and what it protects
A sync refreshes the name, size and category from Ravelry — those are Ravelry’s to describe.
It deliberately leaves alone:
- How many you have
- Where you keep them
- Your notes
So “in the project bag” and “bent one, need replacing” survive every sync. That’s the whole point of the split: Ravelry knows what the needle is, you know where it is.
Ones removed on Ravelry disappear here
If a needle is no longer in your Ravelry list, the next sync removes it here too — the list stays a mirror rather than accumulating things you’ve got rid of.
Signing out
Ravelry-synced hooks and needles are removed when you disconnect your account; the ones you added yourself stay. See What happens when I sign out?.
