Sometimes you end up with the same pattern twice: the Ravelry entry synced in, and the PDF you imported before you connected your account. Merging makes them one.
Merging
Open either one and choose Merge Patterns. You’re asked two things, in this order:
- Keep this pattern — which of the two survives
- Merge with — the other one
The surviving entry gets what the other one had, so you keep the PDF and the Ravelry details in a single card.
Yarn Squirrel only offers sensible partners. From a Ravelry pattern it lists your imported ones; from an imported pattern it lists your Ravelry ones. If there’s nothing suitable it says No Patterns to Merge and tells you which direction is missing.
Separating
Changed your mind? A merged pattern can be taken apart again, and the app is explicit about the result: “This will separate the PDF into its own entry. Both patterns will remain in your library.”
So separating doesn’t delete anything. You end up with the two cards you started with.
Merging or linking?
Reach for linking when you have one entry and want Ravelry’s details on it. Reach for merging when you have two entries for one pattern.
Linking is the more common need, and the import flow offers it to you anyway.
Duplicates that appear on their own
If a pattern shows up twice without you having imported it twice, that’s a different thing — usually two devices syncing for the first time, and the app tidies it up by itself. See Why do I see a pattern twice?.
