Patterns & importing

Patterns in several files

One entry holding all the parts of a crochet-along or a multi-size pattern.

Some patterns arrive as more than one file: a crochet-along released weekly, a garment with a separate chart, a pattern with one PDF per size. They belong to one pattern, so Yarn Squirrel lets one entry hold them all.

Adding parts

Open the pattern and add files to it. Each one becomes a part, listed under the pattern with its own name, and you can add more whenever the next instalment lands.

You can reorder them by dragging, and swipe to remove one. The first part is what opens by default when you view the pattern from a project, so put the main instructions first.

Naming them

Give parts names you’ll recognise: Week 1, Chart, Sizes 4–6. The name is what you’ll be choosing between in the reader while your hands are busy, so “Part 3” is less help than “Sleeves”.

Reading them

In the reader, the parts button lets you jump between them, and each part remembers its own place — coming back to week three doesn’t put you at the top of week one. See Reading a pattern while you work.

When a part can’t be opened

A part this device can’t reach is marked and can’t be tapped, rather than silently doing nothing or opening the wrong file. Tap it to point at the file. Only the affected parts are marked — the rest open as normal.

Why won’t my PDF open on this device? covers why that happens and how to fix it for a whole library at once.
