Every pattern card can carry one or more small icons in the corner. They say where that pattern came from — and a pattern often came from more than one place at once.
The four
- Ravelry — an ⓡ. The pattern is on Ravelry: either synced from your library there, or one of yours that you’ve linked to its Ravelry entry
- PDF — a document icon. There’s a PDF file for it on your device
- Web — a globe. It has a link to a page on the internet
- YouTube — a play button. It has a link to a video
Why two at once is normal
The badges aren’t four categories you pick between. They’re facts about one pattern, and several can be true:
- Ravelry + PDF — a pattern from Ravelry that you also own the PDF of. Either you attached your PDF to the Ravelry pattern, or you imported the PDF and linked it to Ravelry. Both end up here, which is the point: what matters is that you have both
- PDF + YouTube — an imported PDF plus the video tutorial you followed
- Web only — a free pattern you saved from a blog
The badges and the filters are the same thing
The source filter chips in your library use exactly the same four facets. So a badge is also a promise: if a card shows the PDF icon, filtering by PDF will include it. They’re derived from one place in the app precisely so they can’t drift apart.
That makes the badges useful for more than decoration — “show me everything I have an actual file for” is a filter away.
What the badges don’t tell you
Whether a pattern is in your Library, your Favorites or your Queue. Those are about your relationship with a pattern rather than where it came from — see Library, Favourites and Queue.
