Yarn and bits in a project

Recording what you used, and taking it off your shelf at the same time.

Recording what went into a make is worth the ten seconds it takes. It tells you what to buy for the next one, and it keeps your stash honest.

Yarn

Add the yarn you’re using to the project, either from your stash or by hand. A project shows how much you’ve used, and lengths are shown in whichever unit you prefer — tap any length to flip between yards and metres.

Bits and bobs

Adding a supply — safety eyes, buttons, stuffing — asks how many you used, with Deduct from inventory switched on. That takes them off your shelf in Bits & Bobs at the same time, so what the app says you have is what’s actually in the drawer.

Switch it off when you’re recording something after the fact and have already counted the change yourself.

Tools work differently. A hook or a pair of needles is only logged against the project — you don’t use up a 4mm hook by making a hat, so nothing is deducted.

What you used is recorded with the item’s name written into the project. So tidying up your Bits & Bobs later — deleting the last of those buttons, say — doesn’t erase the record of what that blanket was made with.

Adding it to your notes too

There’s an option to append what you used to the project notes as a line of text. Handy if you share your notes, or if you like reading the whole story in one place rather than in sections.
