A palette is a set of colours saved together so you can look at them as a group. It’s for the stage before a project exists — working out whether those five colours actually go together.
You’ll find Palettes in the Yarn tab.
Making one
Create a palette and give it a name, then Add Yarn to put colours in it. Remove anything that isn’t working with Remove from Palette, and Rename the palette as the idea changes.
What it’s for
Seeing colours next to each other, at size, rather than imagining them. A blanket palette, a colourwork chart’s worth of shades, the three greens you’re trying to choose between.
Because palettes are separate from your stash, you can put colours in one that you don’t own yet — which is exactly what you want when planning a purchase.
Palettes need a Ravelry account
The Palettes section only appears when you’re signed in to Ravelry, since it draws on Ravelry’s yarn and colourway data. See Can I use Yarn Squirrel without a Ravelry account?.
Palettes and groups aren’t the same thing
- A yarn group is all the colourways of one yarn you own — it’s about your stash
- A palette is a combination you’re considering — it’s about an idea
The same colour can sit in both.
